The San Juan Islands Conservation District hosts a “Make a Rain Garden Workshop,” Sunday, September 29 from 1-4 p.m. at Roche Harbor Marina. Come learn the basic steps to design, build, plant, and maintain a rain garden in your own backyard.
A rain garden can be an easy and effective way to collect, absorb, and filter stormwater runoff from roof tops, driveways, patios, and other impervious areas; it can help reduce flooding on neighboring property downhill, filter pesticides and fertilizers from lawns and gardens, and increase the amount of water that soaks into the ground to recharge local groundwater. Rain gardens can be shaped and sized to fit your yard.
Join this fun and informative workshop, and take home free plants! Register by email at info @ sjislandscd.org or call 360-378-6621.
