By Linda Thompson, Master Gardener 2013 Fair Committee
The excitement builds, and at my house, close to the fairgrounds, I can hear The Fair coming to life. Footloose, indeed.
For our Master Gardeners: You are invited to meet at the Fairgrounds Monday, August 12th at 9 a.m. to work on the set up of our new, spacious, and welcoming location. The work should go fast, and our fearless leader, Pat R, has jobs for everyone. And please check your personal schedules to see if you have committed to helping out on Monday; assisting at the Flower Hall or Fruit and Vegetable Hall intake or judging on Tuesday, August 13th; or if you have a time slot at the MG Information table, which will be manned all days and most hours of the fair.
For our friends, neighbors, and fair-goers: Don’t miss our garden education demonstrations throughout the Fair run, conducted by San Juan County Master Gardeners. We have a multidimensional array of offerings — from creating a garden fresh salad (and eating it), to composting, to bamboo in the landscape, to flower arranging from the garden, to bugs (good and bad), to garden stories for children, to deer resistant plants and more. Demos will run hourly from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For a complete, downloadable schedule, click the link below:
Thank you to everyone who has helped with the pre-fair work, much of that down and dirty, prettying up the untidy beds around our new space, planning, planning, planning, and now the culmination of it all.
The San Juan County Fair runs August 14-17 at the fairgrounds in Friday Harbor. For complete information, visit sjcfair.org
