It can be a little daunting for newly-minted interns of the Master Gardener program: Apart from making sense of all of our freshly acquired knowledge, the ins and outs of where to go and what to do can get confusing — never mind the prospect of answering the public’s questions!
With all this in mind, this year we launch the San Juan County Master Gardener Mentor Program. Our goal is to provide a welcoming atmosphere for new Master Gardener Interns from the time they sign up for the MG classes until they become well established in the program. The Mentor’s role is to familiarize new MGs with the program and help them feel comfortable as they attend training and begin their volunteer service.
Currently, there are 17 Master Gardeners who have volunteered to be Mentors to the new class of approximately 32 Master Gardener Interns. For more info, contact Dot Vandaveer.
